Our Japanese Teacher, Mr. Takeuchi竹内 , got sick and cannot work
any more.
He had been teaching the students Japanese in
spite of his illness in Hang zhou 杭州….
He is the one in the pink jacket sitting next to me.
I am Keiichiro Kawahara（河原啓一郎）from Japan. Currently I am on the tour of the world by bicycle and
just passed by his school (ZJUFE) and gave a lecture to the students a couple
months ago. I am so glad to find that Hang zhou is one of the unforgettable
cities and he and his students are all my good friends. And I also know that
they all have heart of gold.
It makes me very sad that he got an
intractable disease called cancer…
I guess that he has been having a hard
time...
But I am sure that there is something that
we can do to support his mind and make him know that he is not alone because we
are all on his side..
In Japanese
culture, we usually make 千羽鶴（千紙鶴）（1000 folded
paper cranes) and give them to the people who are sick in bed.
I know that making 1000 paper birds is not
that easy for ONE person.
But we are NOT alone.
My dear friends, I won’t do it successfully
without your cooperation!
Let’s give the best wishes to him that he
will be able to come over his intractable disease.

親愛なる友達みなさんへ。
中国浙江省杭州市にある杭州財経大学で日本語を教えている日本人教師：竹内先生がこの旅体調を崩され帰国することになりました。先生は中国で何年も日本語教育に携わり、これまで数多くの学生に日本語を教えてきました。学生からはユニークで面白い先生だと評判で彼のファンも少なくはありません。旅の経験も豊富な先生からは日本語だけではなく様々なことを学生達は学び、両国の架け橋となる若者を育てて来られました。
僕の講演会に来てくださり、そこでお知り合いになりました。
その竹内先生の容態が急に悪化し、検査で癌という事がわかりました。
先日その一報を学生から聞き、私たちに何かできないかと相談を受けました。
そこで皆で千羽鶴を作って、手紙を添えて竹内先生に渡そうという計画を始めました。
夏休みに入った学生達は中国中に散らばってしまいましたが、インターネットではみんな繋がっています。いくつもの都市の何十人もの学生、学生だけではなく友達の友達の友達にも広がり、竹内先生を想う人々の千羽鶴の輪は意外な早さで広っています。
しかし帰国の期日も近づき、１０００羽の鶴が集まるのか不安も正直あります。
